Privacy
FairShare exists so parents in its supported states can work out a child-support number without handing their financial life to anyone - including us.
What you type stays yours
Calculations run against our server, but nothing you type is stored unless you choose to save it. Guests can calculate and export freely; no incomes, names, or case details are kept. If you sign in, the two things you can save - parent profiles and scenarios - are stored for your account only. Saved items have no expiry of their own: a scenario you delete is removed from the live database at once; removing a saved parent archives it out of use; and deleting your account removes everything it ever saved, archived parents included. Short-lived backup snapshots exist for disaster recovery only - they are never served by the app, which attempts to delete any older than 30 days every time it starts or takes a new snapshot, and retries at every later start if a delete fails.
Saved scenarios
A saved scenario stores the worksheet's inputs exactly as you entered them - every figure on that state's form, whatever it asks for (incomes, costs, overnights, children) - together with a snapshot of the computed result. Scenarios are visible to your account only - not to other users, and not to administrators.
The scenario name is free text you choose. The figures are already inside the scenario, so the name never needs to identify anyone - avoid putting anything in it you would not want stored, such as a case number or someone's full name.
Accounts
Sign-in uses your Google account. We store your email address and a Google account identifier so you can sign back in - and nothing else Google knows about you (we do not request your name or photo). FairShare never sees or stores a password for Google accounts.
"Remember this device" is your call: leave it unchecked (the default) and your sign-in ends when the browser closes; check it and this device stays signed in for 30 days.
Deleting your account deletes everything it owns - profiles, sessions, the account itself - immediately from the live database, and from backup snapshots as those expire (30 days; deletion attempted at the app's next start or snapshot and retried at later starts if it fails). Minimal security records (for example, that an account signed in or was deleted, with its name at the time) are kept for up to one year and then erased; they never contain case content.
Counting visits without tracking you
We count visits with our own code - no third-party analytics, no advertising scripts, and no cookies for tracking. Your address and browser details are never stored; they briefly feed a one-way code that changes every day, so we can see "how many people visited today" but cannot recognize you tomorrow, and neither could anyone who obtained the data.
If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, we record nothing at all. What we do record is only events like "a calculation was completed" - never the figures in it. Raw records are deleted after 90 days; only daily totals remain.
Cookies
Every cookie FairShare sets exists only to sign you in: one keeps your session (including guest sessions), and signing in with Google briefly uses short-lived cookies to complete that handshake securely. None are used for tracking, none are shared with anyone, and there are no advertising or analytics cookies at all.
Questions
This page describes what the code actually does - the source is public at github.com/JJWren/FairShare, including the decision records that bind us to these behaviors. For questions, open an issue at github.com/JJWren/FairShare/issues - though deleting anything, your account included, never requires asking anyone.
